Fertilizer New Zealand Limited is a private Company dedicated to providing quality fertiliser, improving soil and animal health in rural New Zealand. Our objective is to deliver top quality innovative products that will stimulate the Rapid Organic Cycle in our soil releasing plant available nutrients.
Our aim is to offer farmers a viable alternative without sacrificing production and for no extra cost.
Profitability must always be an integral part of farming so it is important that what we apply and how much, is utilized and not "locked up". That is where we can help.
We are very fortunate to have the services of a soil and animal health scientist and proven scientific data and trial work to back up our work.
In the 8 minute video below, Fertilizer New Zealand's John Barnes discuss's the soil. Microbes - Rizobia - White clover - Balance of minerals and elements in the ground and ph levels
Everything depends on your soil
We at Fertilizer New Zealand Ltd want to help you get the best possible value from your soil. We want to make a difference for you. And we believe we can do this best by giving you the knowledge and the tools to help yourself.
Our philosophy is based on the view that everything in farming starts with the soil – healthy soil. You must have healthy soil if you want to grow healthy crops or want to develop healthy animals. Get your soil right, and everything else follows.
We believe in using natural system of the soil to achieve as much fertility as possible. We must not forget that all life is dependent on the top 20cm of the earth’s crust. This produces most our food (vegetables, fruit and meat), plus fibre for our clothes.
We believe healthy soil is all about balance – the right balance of the right ingredients. Our philosophy is similar to the famous Mikhail System developed by renowned soil scientist Ted Mikhail through 18 years of research.
Mikhail’s vision of holistic and sustainable soil management views soil as a living system of three components – cations (positively charged ions), nutrients and biology. For soil to be properly balanced, it needs the right proportion of each of these components; and each of these components needs to be present in the right proportions.
Our system has a strong, scientific base – the result of long-term research by one of the world’s most respected soil scientists. We are not “way out”. But we are different enough to make a difference to soil health.
For instance, our approach of maintaining soil health by ensuring its components are in the correct balance differs from the usual system of treating the soil as a nutrient sponge - by filling it up to “luxury” levels with a few major elements, then squeezing it dry and filling it up again.
Instead, our system adjusts all essential soil nutrients so that they can provide for the needs of specific land uses through the growing season. This approach has proved successful in maintaining high levels of productivity without the need to maintain luxury levels of soil fertility.
The logic follows for farmers. Healthy soil grows healthy plants, healthy pasture and healthy crops. These plants, pasture and crops return high, profitable yields. And the animals that eat this healthy food from healthy soils will, in turn, be healthy, high producers providing healthy profits.
Everything on our website reflects our philosophy of soil health and balance. As you browse, we hope you find our system and products of value. You are welcome to contact us – or you can use our interactive question-and-answer feature - if you want more information and detail.
